Background:
I had the chance to work on various 360° campaign projects for Little Brown for Young Readers, NOVL, Little Brown for Young Readers School & Library which is a subsidiary of Hachette Book Group. The Little Brown for Young Readers is a division that is young and vibrant with a wide range of titles from picture board books to Young Adult novels. I was tasked with designing a wide range of collateral such as the holiday social media campaign, postcards, ads, title type design, and more.

Print Ad
School and Library ads are very industry-driven and are targeted toward schools and librarians. The look tends to be templated and lacks brand authenticity. I had the opportunity to present a very different fresh approach to the design than what is normally accustomed to. Provided there were much less copy and titles than usual, I jumped on the opportunity to flex my design and illustration skills. My goal was to create an ad that reflected the young vibrance that is unique to the brand. I also wanted our ad to stand out in the sea of other industry ads within the magazine. The design initially caught everyone off guard in-house and was apprehensive. We opened a dialogue with all the stakeholders on my intentions and luckily everyone was open to the idea of trying something new. Once published, it definitely caught the eye of everyone both in-house and other people in the industry.
I started by conceptualizing the ad and sketching out possible layouts, then the ad title type, and moved on to illustrating the vector characters. After that was complete color palates were chosen and revised as the ad was routed and the same with the layout. Logo brand placement also became much larger than the original design at the request of the project stakeholder.

I asked to help come up with an idea for some holiday content with limited resources and $0. Surrounded by our fabulous book titles, we started stealing books and props from our colleague’s desks. The book tree was born. What better way to kick off the holidays in a bookish Christmas tree?
